When I first found out I was pregnant with Lily, I was sure we were going to have a boy. Not that I didn’t want a girl, it’s just that both Dave and I’s families are full of boys, boys, and more boys. And the firstborn? Almost always a boy.
So imagine my shock when we looked at the ultrasound picture and saw the words, “It’s a girl!”
Now that Lily’s here, being mommy to a little girl feels like the most natural thing in the world to me. I mean, I am a girl myself, after all!
But you know what doesn’t come naturally to me?
Doing hair.
And this is obviously something that mommies of girls have to concern themselves with more than mommies of boys. I can’t very well just give her a buzz cut and let her loose, can I?
For the first year of her life, Lily’s hair was…well…hardly there. Made it pretty easy to “do”.
Just slap a bow on it…
Or maybe a headband…
But now that her hair is getting longer and thicker…well, it’s a little more complicated. Bows still work, but I wanted to be able to mix it up a little bit too.
So I tried my hand at some pigtails. I had to do some serious toddler wrangling in order to get her to sit still long enough to comb, part, pull, twist and bend those little locks of hair into submission but the result?
So. stinkin’. cute!
But…oh yeah…
Remember how I said I’m not very good at doing hair? Check out how straight my part is…
Ummm….yeah…notsomuch.
Oh, well. Practice makes perfect, right? And I think she still manages to pull it off :)
So maybe I’m not Nick Arrojo. I still think we’ll be just fine :)
HAPPY WEEKEND!!

if I didn't think Jesse would blow like a million gaskets, I would totally do that to Silas' hair....just for fun :) I mean, this kid....needs a sister with hair like his :)
Love the bows - what a cutie!
I remember it being very hard to get it straight with any hairdo when my subject was constantly moving! :) You did great, Mom! She looks adorable.
