Patience.
Mine is wearing thin today.
Last week we tried feeding Lily some Stage 3 baby food -- Mixed Vegetables w/Chicken.
It has chunks.
Lily does not like chunks.
Lily was not ready for chunks.
There was gagging.
There was crying.
There was shaking-of-the-head-and-opening-of-the-mouth-and-refusing-to-swallow-anything even-her-own-saliva-for-fear-of-the-dreaded-chunks.
And today there is the spitting out of the Stage 2 Mixed Vegetables that DO NOT have chunks in them because they remind her of the Stage 3 Mixed Vegetables that DID have the chunks and she will not be tricked into eating chunks, oh no she will not!
It will get better. I know it will.
But right now I have visions of a 16 year old Lily in a high chair with a pink monkey bib and a spoonful of Gerber Stage 2 baby food.
Because she never got over her fear of the chunks.
Last night as we prayed for dinner, Dave ended by saying, "And Lord, please help Lily learn to chew in time for her first birthday so that she can eat cake."
Amen.

Oh, memories! That was so funny (to read.. not to experience, I'm sure). I hope the fear of chunks comes to an end soon. My almost-4-year-old still has a fear of chunks in her yogurt.
My nearing-30-year-old husband still has 'fear' of textured foods.....so, for ME to say, 'this too shall pass', would be a lie :) HOWEVER, give her a little time, maybe even let her 'regress' and in a few months she'll be shoveling BIG chunks of food (cake) into her mouth faster than you can stop her :P
I love the prayer. That cracks me up. So will she eat puffs and cereal? Is it just the chunks in the baby food that has her turned off or is it anything that is not creamy?
She does eat puffs and cereal so I think it is just the chunks in the baby food that she doesn't like. I think it freaked her out because she is used to baby food that is creamy and smooth and not chunky. It was such a dramatic moment! You would have thought we were trying to poison her or something the way she cried!
hey amy. yeah, i was looking at followed blogs of friends and came across yours... staying home definitely has it's ups and downs, but WHAT A BLESSING!! i scanned through some of your posts and could totally relate. i also may have to steal your "photo booth friday." imitation is the best form of flattery, right? hope all is well!
You could try just cooking some mixed frozen veggies really soft for her. Maybe if they're not camoflaged in the baby food, she'll pick up a chunk and eat it. Plus, mixed veggies are so bright and colorful, if nothing else it might distract her long enough for you to shovel some stage 2 in her mouth while she's exploring a carrot piece. :)
